Kadambar koil Kulithalai-Padal petra sthalam

This is a padal petra sthalam where in it is a part of three temples to be seen in a day all around Kulithalai. Kadambar in the morning, Eengoin malai in the afternoon and Iyer malai in the evening. I could see only the kadambar koil in the morning.
How to reach:
The temple is right in the middle of Kulithalai behind the bus stand and enroute to the Karur road
Legends of the temple:

Kadambavaneshwarar and Ambal Balakujalambal aka Mutrila Mulaiyambikai. are worshipped here for getting married to relieve obstacles to marriage. The saptha kannigais came here to get rid of a Brahma hatti dosham by praying to the north facing Shivalingam. The Sanctum has these ladies behind the Shivalingam.
The murugan here is prayed for destroying enemies.

From Dinamalar, org details of  the temple
The legend has been described in the Kanda Puranam
* Brahma got fatigue over his job of creating lives and prayed to Shiva for salvation. Per Shiva’s guidance, Brahma penanced here for 1000 Deva years and got finally the dharshan of Lord Shiva in his Rishaba vahana
* Once there was a fight between Goddess Durga and demon Dhoomralosan. When the demon got stronger in the fight, the Saptha Kannigas joined Durga devi and made the demon run away. The demon ran and hid at the place of Sage Kathyayanar. The Saptha Kannigas mistook that the demon was hiding in the form of Sage and so killed the sage cruelly. Due to this, they got the Brahma harthi dhosham and got it relieved off only after worshipping Shiva here. At the sanctum sanctorum, behind the moolavar, the Saptha Kannigas are present in a sculpture.
* Per the request of Devasarma, Shiva gave the dharshan of his wedding with Goddess Meenakshi and so this place is called Vada Madurai. So He is called Sundaresar.
* Demon Somugan once took away the four Vedas and hid it in the Bhadala logam. So Lord Vishnu worshipped Shiva here and with His blessings went under the ground in the Matsyavatharand brought back the Vedas. So this place is called Vedhapuri
* When Shiva was preaching Pranava mantra to Paravthi devi, Murugar, without any Guru, learnt it by overhearing. So he became a Moogar and to get rid of the curse, He worshipped Shiva in many places and finally came here and got the curse cleared. Uma devi kissed murugar on his forehead and made him sit by the side of Shiva. So this place is called Kandhapuram
Temple:
The temple has 2 praharams and the amman shrine is facing east. There are shrines for Vinayagar, Subramanyar, Natarajar, Somaskandar, Navagrahas, Jyeshta Devi, Nalvar, 63 nayanmars, Sekkizhar, Viswanathar and Gajalakshmi. Vishnu shrine is present in the Agni corner at the banks of the Brahma Theertham. Arunagirinathar sang Thiruppugazh on this Shiva.
Theertham: Brahma Theertham

Kadambar Koil

The village itself is called Kadambar koil after the temple.

How to reach
This is around 15 kms from Uthiramerur on the Kanchipuram road. The temple can easily be missed. Before you come to the bridge accross the cheyyar look for the temple arch on the left and proceed for about 1 km via verdant greenery to reach the temple. The temple is midway between Kanchi and Uthiramerur
Legend:
The temple has been sung by Thirugnana Sambandar and so should be more than 1300 years old
This lord was prayed to by kashyapa muni when the yaga he was doing was disrupted by asuras Mahanan and Maagaral.  lord Shiva  then asked Kandan to proceed to help the rishi which kumaran did with the help of the magic vel.Since he worshipped his father here the lord is known as Kadambareshwarar as Kadamba is one of murugan’s names
The river Cheyyar flows west to east. At this place it flows north to south like the ganges and hence it is a moksha puri like Kasi.
Once a brahmin from Pandya kingdom  called Gunaseelan died, his son Budhisenan brought his ash to immerse it in Kasi. When he was having a bath here keeping the pot with ash in the bank the water happened to fall on the ashes and he was surprised to find that the bones got changed to flowers in the pot. At that time, a  voice was heard that this place is much holier than Kasi and so  the ashes can  be immersed here. He did the same in the river Cheyyar So this is a place where one can do the rituals for the forefathers like in Kasi and to worship for salvation.

The main praharam also houses Avudai nayaki amman in the standing posture facing south
There is a small navagraha sannidhi outside in the praharam a later addition.
There is an adhikara nandi  and 63 nayanmarsin the outer praharam with the usual kosta vigrahams of ,Vinayaka, Lingodhbavar,Dakshinamurthy, Durga ,Chandikeshwarar and Bhairavar in their usual niches as in all Siva temples

Visit to temples from Uthiramerur to Kanchi

I had the chance to visit various temples in Uthiramerur up to Kanchi . The distance of 35 kms houses many ancient temples with quaint legends ..
History of Uthiramerur
As per Legend Uthiramerur was the place where The Pandavas came for their agnathavasa ( Virata Parva of the Mahabharata) in the kingdom of Virata. The name Uthara is associated with both his children Uthraa who was taught dance by Brihannala  and married Arjuna’s son Abhimanyu as well as Uthara kumara the prince who was led into Battle by Charioteer Brihannala ( arjuna in disguise) The main Vishnu temple thus reflects this aspect with Vishnu forms worshipped individually by all the Pandavas. There are nine  perumal Sannidhis in the temple  here.
The earliest documented form of Democracy was practiced here as found on the temple inscriptions in the Kailasanathar temple which was renovated by the ASI recently. The formal Guidelines for Assembly Elections and a constitutional framework was laid out by Parantaka chola in the 10 century AD.the same are inscribed in the walls of this temple
Though inscriptions found here credit the temple to be built by Nandi Varma Pallava in the 8century AD, it is believed to have been started in 6 Century itself  .For more details visit this link from the Hindu
