Once Kubera due to his greed in earlier days was cursed to lose all his wealth Dharma the god of Justice left him and kubera lost all his wealth.He was advised by the saptha rishis to have a bath in the Chandra theertham and worship the lord here to be redeemed.
Since Kubera got back his wealth and Dharma here the place is very popular
