Mundakanni amman temple Mylapore Chennai

 

To the north of Kapaalishwarar temple near the Madhava perumal temple beyond the Sanskrit college  is the mundakanni amman temple. The temple is about 1300 years old. (The original name was Mandhakini Amman which has been tamilised to Mundakanni amman)DSCN1993

She is supposed to be a form of Saraswathy. The Amman is a swayambhu  arising from a Snake infested ant hill.the main deity resembles a lotus bud and beneath which you can see soolam engraved on it.  Above this you can see a silver roof with amman's face on it
