I glanced upon this exquisite temple by chance on the maps and proceeded here on 17 Dec 2017’
The temple is quite ancient and is known as Raja raja chozan koil locally.this refers to a descendent of the great Raja raja Chola who assumed his ancestors’ name as a title and was the son of Kulathunga chola I .He is credited with ascending the throne before he was 10 years old( the grandson of Kundavai piratti who was Kulathungas mother),ruling alongside his father for many years and finally re annexing Vengi nadu after defeating the chalukyas.Edicts about him are found in Sidlaghatta near Tumkur Karnataka and he was a great devotee of Shiva ,lived in Chidambaram in a palace near the temple and was also known as Parakesari. Incidentally Chintamani is the name of a buzzling business centre close to Tumkur in Karnataka .
HOW TO REACH:
The temple is just off the NH45 while travelling on the GST road after crossing the Vikravandi toll and the Mundiyambakkam exit leading to the Vizhupuram Medical college, a small tiny road leads to this temple in a place called Chintamani. You will need to travel 2 kms on this village road with amazing scenery
The temple is in peaceful surroundings with many rare Koshta vigrahas as seen below. The small temple has two east facing sannidhis for Vaitheeswaran and Thayalnayagi
